Ribe

As Denmark's oldest city, Ribe has a fascinating history as an old medieval town. Located in the centre of the Wadden Sea coast, there are plenty of opportunities to soak up both history and beautiful nature.
In the city centre you’ll find Ribe Cathedral, Denmark's oldest cathedral, which is said to have housed the first Danish Christians. Visit the church and learn about its long and dramatic history dating back to its foundation in 948. Then head up to the tower for a spectacular view that stretch across the Wadden Sea and all the way to Esbjerg and Fanø. In the old medieval city centre you can explore the city life with everything from museums, to restaurants and shops.
Don't miss out on a trip to the Wadden Sea National Park, where you can experience the distinctive Wadden Sea landscape. At the entrance to the national park is the Wadden Sea Centre. An architectural gem designed by star architect Dorte Mandrup, the thatched flat building is an innovative take on how architecture can merge with nature.
If you haven't had enough nature experiences, you can also take a trip out to Mandø, tides permitting. Twice a day, the tide floods the road to Mandø, so you can't walk to or from the island. Here you can experience nature on its own terms.
